To whom it may concern:
Around 6 years ago I had to sign up for private healthcare, because I quit my job to go back to school. I finished school in 3 years and got a job in software development. I was recently offered a relocation opportunity by that same employer, but instead of accepting it I decided to start my own app company. I had to sign up for private healthcare again, but this time I did it through healthcare.gov.
What a difference 6 years makes. Last time I went through this process, I had to supply a full medical history and wait for someone to decide whether I was insurable. This time it just wanted to now if I smoked or was pregnant. I was eligible for a tax credit, because I won’t be making any income for awhile. On top of that, I was about to enroll in a plan and the service smartly pointed out that I was missing out on some savings as a result of some special plans that I qualified for.
I’m still sort of in shock about how great the experience of signing up for healthcare was. At some point in the process I thought about how this is the kind of thing I voted for. I will have a lot to worry about over the course of the year as I try to get my app released, but thankfully good healthcare will not be one of those worries.
